Michał Modrzejewski was born on 12th March 1977 in Maków Podhalański. He graduated the Faculty of Economics and Sociology of the University of Łodź with the title of a Master of Economics. Besides, he completed the Postgraduate Studies of the Internal Audit and Management Control in the Public Finance Sector Units in the Warsaw School of Economics. For nearly 15 years Michał Modrzejewski has been an active leader of non-governmental organizations acting for rural development and for people threatened by social exclusion. In 2000–2002 he was a Chairman of the National Academic Council of the Union of the Youth of Rural Areas. Since 2002 he has been intensively seeking creation of a consistent and modern youth policy in Poland. He has undertaken specific initiatives in the field of the youth policy implemented in the rural areas. He has been a promoter of specific youth-focused strategies and actions in such areas as entrepreneurship, non-formal education, social involvement, voluntary service, work with the youth, international cooperation or modern agriculture. He was an initiator of establishment of the Polish Council of the Youth Association, in which he was a Vice-Chairman in 2003 – 2007. In 2006 – 2012 he was a President of the Board of the National Union of the Youth of Rural Areas. His responsibilities included representation of interest of young inhabitants of rural areas not only in Poland but in Europe as well, inter alia, in the European Council of Young Farmers (CEJA) with its seat in Brussels or in the organization Freedom, Legality and Rights in Europe. In 2011 the Union of the Youth of Rural Areas managed by him joined the Rural Youth Europe (RYE) network, which, while promoting the active participation in the social life, associates NGOs from all Europe. Since 2012 he has been a Honorary President of the Union of the Youth of Rural Areas. Michał Modrzejewski participated in social consultation of a few operational programmes for Poland financed from the EU funds, inter alia, the Rural Development Programme for 2007 – 2013. At present he leads the Group for the Youth of the Polish National Rural Network established at the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development. He is also a member of the Monitoring Committee of the Rural Development Programme 2014 - 2020 estabilished at the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development. For years the social activity of Michał Modrzejewski has been focusing on a few basic areas: youth policy, rural areas, professionalisation of the third sector in rural areas, social entrepreneurship of the youth, innovative agriculture.
